The Great War, it was said, was the war to end all wars.
THE PRICE OF FREEDOM tells the story of one British soldier surrounded by the realities of war, searching for his own moral answers - told through the poetry of the First World War.
The Great War Poets painted a vivid picture of the inner war that every soldier fights within himself. A war in which man discovers the true cost of sacrifice, a true loss of faith and the true fragility of life.
Locked within their poetry is that truth; A soldier's realisation that no-one would ever understand what was asked of him and an experience of fear as he had never before known.
Using the emotive works of Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon, A.A. Milne, Wilfred Gibson, Rupert Brooke and John McCrae, THE PRICE OF FREEDOM presents the sentiment of a generation defined by it’s courage and torn by it’s sacrifice, in a story seen through the eyes of just one soldier, but told from the hearts of every man who fought when the world first went to war.
Having taken us several years to complete, juggling film production with our full time education and dealing with a shoestring budget, the film is in its final stages of completion. Throughout the process we have used local crew, actors, locations and the reenactment group "The Birmingham Pals". We recently finished recording an original soundtrack written specifically for the film by composer Chris Duncan, with the King Edwards Edgbaston School Orchestra.
With the intention of handing the finished film to the British Legion to help with their Poppy Appeal, The Price of Freedom will hopefully open peoples eyes to the horrors of war using a combination of strong visuals, powerful soundtrack and harrowing poetry. The Price of Freedom is set to begin its festival circuit this year. We are both incredibly proud of this film and look to the future with excitement.
The shorter version of the film, used for film festivals with a duration limit, can be found here: The Price Of Freedom - Vignette
